feng shui cures

Use light, mirrors, crystals and other reflective objects to transform your life quickly and easily.

LIGHT

Light not only contributes to the ambiance and mood of a space, it also enhances energy (also known as “chi”). In fact, light is energy and is therefore one of the quickest and easiest ways to bring in additional chi.

Every room in your home should be well lit in order to draw energy into and around the room.

Good lighting design means balance. You do not want to overlight or underlight a room. If possible, you should allow for variety and user-control with multiple light sources and dimmer switches. Consider adding at least three different light sources to each room. These may include task lighting like a desk or reading lamp, overhead lighting, and uplighting. Also, make sure to use full-spectrum bulbs.

Light is an excellent feng shui cure for activating chi, filling in missing bagua areas, bringing clarity, and symbolically lifting low ceilings.

For example, if you have a corner missing in your bagua, you can use an outdoor light such as a lamppost to anchor the missing area. Or if you have low ceilings, you can use uplights to “lift” the ceiling and make it feel more spacious or yang.

The most beneficial place to add more light is in the fame and reputation area of your home since light represents the fire element.

MIRRORS

Mirrors are the workhorses of feng shui cures due to their repertoire of functions including activating, circulating, expanding and deflecting energy.

Mirrors can be used to fill in missing parts of the bagua, enable energy flow, expand cramped spaces, redirect or uplift chi, bring in more light, double prosperity, deflect negative energy away, or balance too much fire element.

If you have a missing area in the bagua, place a mirror on the indented wall or wall closest to the missing bagua area to fill it from the inside out.

You can also use mirrors to expand your space and encourage energy flow. For example, if you walk into a wall in your front entrance, hang a mirror on the wall to open up the space and redirect the flow of energy. A mirror is a fabulous antidote for cramped or claustrophobic rooms because it doubles the size and multiplies the light.

Since energy flows downhill like water, use mirrors to uplift the energy in sunken living rooms or at the bottom of stairs. They are also an excellent way to lift energy and balance low ceilings.

Unless you are deflecting negative energy, don’t hang a mirror directly facing a window — it simply reflects the energy right back outside. Ideally, mirrors should reflect harmonious images in order to multiply beneficial energies. When hung properly, you can double your existing windows, natural views, and sunlight. Just make sure that you don’t have two mirrors facing each other — this bounces the energy back and forth and can be very disorienting.

DO NOT reflect clutter, chaos, darkness or fractured images.

Here are some other things to keep in mind when using mirrors as a feng shui cure. The reflection should be clean and clear. Also, make sure to reflect the whole body or face and avoid split, fractured, or distorted images — like you get from mirrored tiles. Partial or fractured reflections present you with a fractured image of self and can lead to problems. Additionally, the mirror should be framed — no raw edges. And finally, don’t put mirrors in the bedroom; the energy is too active.

Use mirrors to deflect negative energy away from your home.

Mirrors, or any reflective surface like a brass doorknocker, are an excellent feng shui cure to repel negative energy away from your home. The mirror’s reflection should face the problem and reflect it back outside. Use them for redirecting inauspicious chi from transformers, electrical equipment, poison arrows, obnoxious neighbors, etc.

The most beneficial place to add mirrors is in the career and journey area of your home since mirrors represent the water element.

CRYSTALS

Crystals are often used to modulate energy, fill in missing parts of the bagua, bring sunlight and chi into the home, or alter the vibration of a space in a specific manner.

Crystals balance both fast and slow moving energy.

Use crystals to slow down and disperse chi speeding down a stairway or long hallway. For staircases, simply hang a crystal at the bottom of your stairway to uplift and re-circulate the chi. You can also use crystals to uplift chi in the bathroom, a sunken living room, or rooms with low ceilings.

Crystals are great feng shui cures for poison arrows — poison arrows are cutting chi created from sharp and protruding corners. By hanging a crystal between yourself and the sharp corner, you protect yourself.

Since crystals absorb negative energy, remember to clean your crystals regularly with clean, clear water — no salt — and let them dry in the sunlight. If crystals are too woowoo for you, use objects made of crystal like a paperweight.
